It produces large globes of white flowers, turning pink with age. Both the bulb and grass-like foliage are edible and have the common oniony smell. Not considered to be of any culinary value today.

Dependable and very drought-tolerant plant, self-seeding freely. Prune spent flowers back to promote fresh growth and contain seeding. Full sun gives the best showing.
