A water-loving, marginal plant with oval leaves and white, pale pink, or lilac blooms. It can have aggressive reseeding capabilities so be sure to remove all spent blooms immediately, especially if planted in large pools.

The word alisma is derived from the Celtic word meaning water. It has many medicinal uses, including treatment of rabies, hence the common name "Mad-Dog Weed".
Thrives in a moist to wet soil, or planted along water edges where the roots are submerged no deeper than 30 cm. Good for naturalizing, garden ponds and water gardens. Will self-sow aggressively in a suitable setting.
