A dwarf, compact, upright shrub with long panicles of fragrant white flowers. The blooms give way to brown, long-lasting seed capsules and the glossy, green foliage turns shades of yellow to golden-brown in the fall.

Clethra grows naturally in wet places. It tolerates a wide variety of soils and conditions, including shade and salt. Suckering fairly freely, it may need some maintenance.
