A favourite of the Monarch butterfly, it produces a profusion of sweet-scented, lavender flowers. The caterpillars feast on the leaves, stocking up for when, as an adult butterfly, they migrate to Mexico for the winter. The pods are used in dried flower arrangements.

Grows best in full sun, in average to moist soil, tolerating a wide range of conditions. Can spread rather quickly by seed. If desired, remove seed heads before they split open.
