Long lasting, tiny flowers smell like vanilla, a magnet for butterflies. Rich green foliage tolerates dry soil, but grows best in moist to wet, humus rich soil. Attractive seed pods are used in dried arrangements.

Although tolerant of drier soils, swamp milkweed thrives in moist to wet soils. Once flowering is complete, it is best to leave dead flowers untouched as attractive seed pods will follow. Very slow to emerge in spring.
