It displays finely divided, green leaves which turn to orange or red hues in autumn. A crooked, twisting limb structure gives the plant an oriental appearance. Reddish, hairy fruit ripen late summer.

Rhus grows best in a slightly acidic, fertile soil and full sun, however, it will tolerate dry or compacted soils and other urban conditions.
