Its most noteworthy characteristic is the combination of attractive, greenish-gold, maple-like foliage appearing alongside the mature, burgundy-coloured leaves. The small, pinkish-white flowers complement the foliage with the exfoliating bark adding appeal.

This cultivar is often offered as a pruned or trained tree form. Ninebark grows best in a well-drained, fertile soil, however, they are very hardy and adaptable and will tolerate a wide range of soil types and conditions. Prune by removing dead twigs after flowering.
