Ontario Blazing Star (Barrelhead Gayfeather, Cylindrical Blazing star)

Fluffy, rose-purple flower heads appear above the erect flower stalks and narrow, grass-like foliage. Blooms open at the top of the flower spike first, then slowly open downward.

Thrives in full sun, poor soils and dry conditions and  is often seen growing on hills or slopes. Drought tolerant, it will also grow in a loamy soil if the site is well-drained.
