Green foliage is edged in white. Feathery stalks emerge reddish-brown, changing to golden-tan in the fall. Sterile seedheads persist into winter.
Best grown in full sun to partial shade in a moist, well-drained soil, however, will tolerate most soil types. Calamagrostis is drought tolerant, once established. Prune foliage to ground level in the spring to make way for new growth.
