Mountain ash has ash-like leaves, but are members of the rose family, and are not related to true ash (Fraxinus of the olive family). Sorbus are not a host plant of emerald ash borer (Agrilus planipennis).
This slower-growing compact shade tree is ideal for smaller landscapes. The leaves of oakleaf mountainash resemble an oakleaf, hence the common name. The berries attract a wide range of birds.
