Pyrus calleryana 'Aristocrat' produces sterile fruits because they do not self-pollinate. However, in the presence of other compatible Pyrus varieties, they can produce viable seed which is easily distributed by birds. Thus they can squeeze out native flora and reduce biodiversity. Unfortunately, P. fauriei cvs. fit into that category.
Consider other spring-flowering trees: Amelanchier spp, Cercis canadensis, Viburnum lentago, Cornus racemosa.
Pyrus is a great specimen, known for its blanket of flowers in early spring and its slow, long-lasting, showy fall colour. It makes an ideal shade tree that will highlight any lawn or park. Aristocrat is a wider-growing cultivar than other pyrus.
