Pteridium aquilinum

Bracken Fern

The coarse, sturdy, bright green, triangular-shaped fronds form large colonies. They can be found in marshy wetlands and along roadsides. The deep rhizomes allow it to survive harsh conditions like fires or floods.

Growing & Maintenance Tips for Pteridium aquilinum

Pteridium grows best in a moist to average, slightly acidic soil, in partial shade, however, it will tolerate dry, full sun conditions. The first frost will cause leaves to die back so cleaning up the dead leaves in the spring or fall is recommended.
