A very showy plant with an irregular pyramidal form. The needles have bright yellow variegations or bands which create a pattern resembling an eye. Ogon is Japanese for "gold" and janome is "snake or dragon's eye". The short needles make it a suitable choice for bonsai.

When viewed from the branch tips, the yellow pattern resembles an eye. Ogon is Japanese for "gold", and janome is "snake or dragon's eye".
This dwarf conifer specimen makes a great focal point with its contrasting blue-green and yellow foliage. Retains its colour better when planted in sunnier locations, but it will benefit from being planted in partial afternoon shade.
