A thorny plant with silver foliage all season long. Sweetly scented flowers, silver-white outside, yellow inside are followed by yellow fruit. A xeriscape plant, known to be salt and drought tolerant with a wide, spreading habit.

Invasive in Ontario and other parts of North America.
Salt- drought- and poor-soil-tolerant, it provides a silvery backdrop to almost any garden. Russian olives can be trained or pruned into a tree form, however, note that they can become unruly if not pruned occasionally.
