Usually grown as an understock stem for weeping or other decorative cultivars.

Growing & Maintenance Tips for Caragana arborescens

Caragana will grow in dry, rocky, poor soils in full sun and a range of soil pH. They can be used for hedging or as a food crop. Roots and stems are very stringy and fibrous. Though they tolerate salt, they need cold winters, so coastal areas with moderated temperatures are not suitable. Very small thorns surprise the handler.
