A dwarf, upright, mounding plant with fern-like, deeply divided foliage displaying a brilliant crimson colour in the fall. Small, reddish-purple blooms appear before the leaves and give way to red samaras.
This Japanese maple cultivar can be trained to grow more upright, or left to cascade and mound naturally. Likes protection from drying winds and hot afternoon sun. Grows best in a slightly moist, fertile soil. Add mulch regularly, but avoid heaping the mulch against the stem.
