A mounding, succulent plant with glossy, heart or kidney-shaped foliage, a thick, hollow stem topped with bright, shiny, buttercup-like, yellow flowers.

Grows best in a wet to moist, rich humus soil in partial shade. Will survive periods of drought, but will go dormant. Naturally found along streams, ponds, swamps or wet meadows.
