Newly emerging foliage has a purple tint, transitioning to bronze-green in the summer, then to yellow in the fall. Strings of fragrant wisteria-like violet-purple flowers give way to flat purple-brown seed pods. They are a tough, adaptable, fast-growing tree.

Violet-purple spring flowers make this an interesting tree for the landscape. A good selection for locations which are susceptible to drought. Avoid pruning in the spring as it tends to "bleed" when cut.
