Native to Ontario and most of North America.
Fragaria virginia is the parent species of most strawberry cultivars now grown.
Grows best in an average to moist, well-drained soil, in full sun to partial shade and is quite adaptable to drought conditions. It is spread by runners, which can be separated from the parent plant to form new plants.
