Cream-coloured spring flowers are a deeper red towards their tips, blooming atop deep green leaves which turn shades of orange, yellow, red, and purple in the fall.

This underused plant grows best in a slightly acidic, peaty soil in full sun or light shade. To promote next season's flowering, any pruning should be done soon after blooming. Best fall colour occurs in very sunny locations.
