Flowers look similar to a man's close-fitting breeches, worn upside down, leading to the common name.

Dicentra canadensis grows best in a moist, fertile, humus-rich, neutral to slightly alkaline soil, in partial to full shade. These plants normally go dormant early to midsummer.
