An excellent ground cover for a moist, partially shaded area. The mottled, cream variegation in the blue-green leaves fades as it ages, taking on burgundy highlights in the fall. Spikes of flowers add interest to the spring garden.

Grow Me Instead offers substitutions.
Slow-spreading, ground cover that grows best in a fairly moist soil. Dense foliage is good for choking out weeds. Can become invasive. Will grow in partial to full shade and with adequate moisture will tolerate some sun. To rejuvenate plant growth, mow (on a high setting) after blooming. Divide every two to three years to prevent centre dieback.
