Red flowers appear before the green foliage on this rapid-growing tree that adapts well to a wide range of soil conditions. While young, it is pyramidal in form, becoming more rounded in habit as it matures. Fall colour varies from yellow to scarlet.
Native to Ontario and parts of North America. In autumn, the bright red leaves make a striking contrast against dark coloured evergreens or the white bark and yellow foliage of birches. It can be grown as a specimen tree or multi-stemmed plant.
Red maples thrive on a wide range of soil types, tolerate more moisture, pH and elevation than any other forest species in North America.
